Connie is 13 and has a vision impairment which prevents her from seeing out of her left eye. She also struggles with 3D concepts.
Connie’s mother says: “Until Connie’s eye condition was discovered, she lacked confidence and didn’t always want to take part in things at school. Connie is now gaining in confidence all the time and this has been enhanced with the support of Sight for Surrey’s Recreation Team.
“The events are an amazing opportunity for Connie to meet other children of varying ages with visual difficulties. For once, she has been surrounded by people with varying vision impairment, who all understand what each other is experiencing.
“At these events, it is wonderful to see Connie relaxed, calm and above all, obviously happy in herself. She now looks forward to the regular communication from the charity offering new opportunities on offer!”
Connie says: “I want to be an occupational therapist when I grow up, specialising in children. The recreation events organised by Sight for Surrey are helping me build up my confidence and giving me sport and encouragement to help me believe I can succeed.
“Two of the skills required are being calm and good with children. The events have helped with these skills as I have helped the smaller children with different activities during the event.”
